The definition
Flamboyant Gamine is small in scale with a long, broken line and a sharper, boxier edge. It is the more yang of the two gamine identities. In the current ten-type system it is Vertical + Petite.
Flamboyant Gamine is often reduced to short and edgy. The useful part is the contrast: small scale plus a long or broken line. A cropped jacket with a long trouser can work; a petite twin set usually cannot.
What you may notice
These are the cues the identity is usually described with. They are not a checklist, and a single feature does not decide the type: the overall line does.
- A compact frame that still reads leggy or long-limbed.
- Angular or boxy bone structure on a small scale.
- Taut flesh and a straight bust and hip line rather than lush curve.
- Large eyes and a face that can carry bold, graphic detail.
Read them as a description of a silhouette, not a rating of a body. The same cues can appear in other identities, especially near a family boundary.
The line in clothes
The styling direction follows the line. It is a starting point for silhouettes, fabric and detail — not a list of rules about what you are allowed to wear.
| Silhouette | Short, boxy and broken: cropped jackets, mini skirts, contrasting separates, a staccato line. |
|---|---|
| Fabric | Crisp and light to mid-weight — poplin, gabardine, fine wool. |
| Detail | Bold, geometric and small-to-medium. Colour blocking and sharp accessories are welcome. |
| Friction point | Long unbroken columns, soft drapes, oversized coats and symmetrical matching. |
Flamboyant Gamine or Soft Gamine?
Both are petite and contrasting. Flamboyant Gamine is straighter and sharper; Soft Gamine is rounder, curvier and softer in the flesh.
Height and the current rule
Petite; under 5 ft 5 in (165 cm) is the common community limit. In the current method, 5 ft 6 in (168 cm) and above is treated as a vertical dominant line; below that, the visual answers decide. Height is one input, not a verdict.

Flamboyant Gamine: questions
Can a Flamboyant Gamine be 5 ft 6 in?
The common working limit is 5 ft 5 in (165 cm), and the identity depends on Petite. At 5 ft 6 in (168 cm) the current method treats vertical as dominant, which points to a different family.
Why is a gamine “broken”?
A broken line means the eye is stopped and restarted by contrast, hem length or a change of colour. It is the opposite of a long, uninterrupted column.
Is Flamboyant Gamine the same as “petite” in retail sizing?
No. Petite sizing is about garment length. Kibbe petite is a visual proportion: small scale in every direction, often with long limbs relative to the torso.
