The definition
Soft Natural is curve on a frame that still shows width through the shoulders and upper back. The bones are blunt rather than sharp and the flesh is soft. In the current ten-type system it is Curve + Width.
Soft Natural is one of the most over-typed identities online, usually by anyone with curves and a broad shoulder. The width has to be structural, not just a fitted top. If the shoulder line does not push fabric outward, Soft Classic is the closer comparison.
What you may notice
These are the cues the identity is usually described with. They are not a checklist, and a single feature does not decide the type: the overall line does.
- Visible width across the shoulder and upper back.
- Curve through bust and hip, with a softer waist than a Classic.
- Blunt bones and soft flesh, often fuller through the upper arm and thigh.
- Full, rounded facial features on a slightly broad frame.
Read them as a description of a silhouette, not a rating of a body. The same cues can appear in other identities, especially near a family boundary.
The line in clothes
The styling direction follows the line. It is a starting point for silhouettes, fabric and detail — not a list of rules about what you are allowed to wear.
| Silhouette | Relaxed but shaped: a soft waist, draped tops, wide trousers, an unconstructed jacket that follows the curve. |
|---|---|
| Fabric | Soft natural fabrics — linen, cotton, silk, fine knit — with enough weight to drape. |
| Detail | Slightly asymmetric, softly rounded, moderate scale. Keep the finish easy. |
| Friction point | Sharp tailoring, stiff structure, oversized shapeless pieces and high-contrast geometric print. |
Soft Natural or Soft Classic?
Both read soft. Soft Natural has width through the shoulder and a more relaxed line; Soft Classic is balanced and symmetrical, with no single feature pushing out.
Height and the current rule
Curve-dominant identities are under 5 ft 6 in (168 cm) in the current method. In the current method, 5 ft 6 in (168 cm) and above is treated as a vertical dominant line; below that, the visual answers decide. Height is one input, not a verdict.

Soft Natural: questions
Are Soft Naturals always curvy?
Curve here means the line is pushed out by the body, not a particular hip-to-waist ratio. A Soft Natural can be slim and still read as curve-dominant.
Why is width paired with curve?
Width and curve describe different parts of the silhouette: the shoulder and upper back are broad, while the bust and hip round out below. Both have to be accommodated.
Is Soft Natural the same as a pear body shape?
No. A pear is a measurement pattern based on hip-to-shoulder ratio. Soft Natural is about width at the shoulder combined with curve, and it can occur at any hip measurement.
